Maureen’s Tips For Getting A Good Night’s Sleep

Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “A well-spent day brings happy sleep.” We at PT Pro know how hard you all work, so we thought we’d share a few tips with you on how to get the most restful night’s sleep possible. In this video, Maureen shares some excellent pointers on what type of pillow is best, what the optimal sleeping position is, as well as a few things that are best NOT to do.

One of the most often asked questions we get is whether or not it is acceptable to sleep on your stomach. Our suggestion is to avoid sleeping on your stomach. Sleeping on your back or side is the preferred sleeping position because with the correct pillow, the neck can be properly supported. When you sleep on your stomach, your neck is forced to turn to the side and be kept in that position for a lengthy period of time. This causes a pull on the neck muscles which can then lead to discomfort. Below are two excellent examples of proper sleeping positions.

Maureen also suggests using an old-fashioned down pillow. These pillows are sturdy, have some weight to them, and can also be easily and effectively molded to fit your head and neck . A down pillow will help fill the space in between the head and neck and provide proper support. It is a good ideas as well to place a pillow between your legs to provide proper spinal alignment and support for your femur.

Keeping these few tips in mind will help you get the restful night’s sleep you deserve.
